Importance: High

GROW SITE CLEANUP: BALCH CAMP AREA

Advance Information for Participants

This is a completely new undertaking for the HSVTC, and there are many
problems we have not encountered before.

Therefore, it is imperative that we ask that all participants be in camp
Thursday evening in time for a 7 PM safety meeting before working on
Friday. Those who will be working on Saturday need to be in camp Friday
evening in time for another 7 PM safety meeting. There is too much new
information to cover in the morning before work.

Remember, we are working at lower elevations, and we will not be on
trails; it's a whole new event.

In addition to the usual trail crew apparel (hat, long-sleeved shirt,
long pants, boots), we ask you to bring the following items:
. Ankle gaiters (not essential, but nice)
. Extra water bottles (4 liters each is good, you don't have to
        carry far)
. Insect repellent (There ARE ticks..)
. Sunscreen (we will be on south-facing slopes)
. A whistle (thick, overhead brush can cause disorientation)
. An extra change of work clothing for day 2 and a plastic laundry
        bag (there IS poison oak)
. Shower soap and towel and clean clothes for evenings (NICE
        facility in Balch Camp!)
. Duct tape (extra you can tape your pant legs and sleeves closed
        to keep dirt out)
. Goggles (just in case for extra added eye protection)
. Raingear (it IS still March)
. Hand sanitizer to use before eating lunch and snacks in the
        field
. Walking Sticks

Thank you for volunteering to help on this new endeavor. There is a lot
of work to do, but there is also a nice campsite, beautiful country, and
a great group of people to work with. And, the satisfaction that comes
with a job well done.
